The Bewildered Story |
||
1. Born To Be-Wild-ered“Bewildered” came into being in November 2004 during a round of the Weekend Warriors program at West Ryde Music Workshop. We were three weeks into the four-week rehearsal period and still without a name while other bands, comprising members of our vintage, were known as Mid-Riff Crisis, Memory Loss etc. (you get the idea). Standing about in the corridor of the Rehearsal Studios waiting for our room, the kid at reception asked us old duffers kindly, “Are you guys OK?”, and we said “Yeah, just waiting for this studio” to which he replied “Oh, good, it’s just you looked a bit bewildered”, where-upon we looked at each other and said “That’s it! – Bewildered!” And so the name stuck.

2. In the Be-Wilder(-ed)nessFollowing the high of our Weekend Warriors graduation gig at West Ryde Pub (Gig #1 – see Gig List), our drummer, Jason Lord, and rhythm guitarist Damian Carey, took their adrenalin rush home leaving lead singer Brett Morelli, lead guitarist Tony Strasser and lead Bass player Ralph Mitchell to take Bewildered on as a working (well, rehearsing) band. Thanks to the networks established in previous rounds of Weekend Warriors they found Kees Walrecht for drums and Ted Hinde for second lead guitar and started the long journey to a working repertoire. |
3. Betwixt Bothered and BewilderedThe repertoire grew but with just one (self-sponsored) gig each three months in the new year of 2005 (Gigs #2 and #3 in Gig List), other priorities took Ted and then Kees off leaving the three stalwarts again looking for new partners to join the trek on the Long Road To The Top. Once more, a WW veteran came forward, Crispin Dobson on second lead guitar. And Ralph’s wife’s son (are you with me) Steve Fisher agreed to drum for us temporarily (playing inter-rim shots).

4. The Turramurra Tour of 2005Momentum gathered at the end of 2005 with Bewildered (minus1 - Tony had a previous engagement) playing the first gig for someone not actually in the band (Gig #4). And then two gigs on two weekends in a row in November, at opposite ends of Turramurra Ave, one of them an actual public paying gig, became the Bewildered Turramurra Tour of 2005 (Gigs #5 and #6). |
5. 2006 – Growing BewilderedThe momentum of the Turramurra Tour carried us through the Festive Season and through the admittedly not very long process of trying out applicants for the position of “permanent” (quotes inferred from Spinal Tap) drummer. Here we found our well matched drummer Colin Sevitt. The gigs became monthly, starting with Gig #7 in April, Gig #8 in June, Gig #9 in July, Gig #10 in August, Gig #11 in September, Gig #12 in October, Gig #13 in November and three Gigs booked for December. |
6. Now We are 6A New Year and a new, extra, member with Alison Aymes joining on lead and backing vocals. Alison’s debut was a really well supported evening at the Freeway Pub at Artarmon in April (thanks friends). Our first “stadium gig” followed at the First Data Family Picnic Day, North Sydney Oval, in early June.
|
7. ChangesBrett Morelli unexpectedly announced his retirement from the band. Nonetheless he still played two more gigs.
|
New singer, Gary Davis, has joined and is learning the repertoire and the band is refreshing the song list while we're at it. Stay tuned! |
8.
Bewildered no more The name has reached its used by date. With the new line up the band decided on a new name - the Prime Numbers Band. So a new chapter begins. |
